As a newbie to social media and a self proclaimed introvert I have to develop ways of “shattering the box” (I’m still a work in progress). I have come across some situations on this journey that have left me to wonder if social media can be sort of like high school. I tried to talk to some of the more popular people only to be left with that empty *so I’m too small for you to associate with* feeling. I still recall the disappointment when I began tweeting and following people only to view weeks later no signs of reciprocity. It stings a little. I know better than to take everything so personal but I am also human. In my quest for social media greatness I often reach out to my sister Jen of Jael Custom Designs for advice and council. She is a true social butterfly, always has been from cabbage patch kid days! So when the Triangle Tweet Up / Ignite Durham event requested speakers to do a 5 minute pitch on what drives them, I encouraged (forced) her to enter. Of course when she was selected she came to me and said “okay so what am I talking about now”.
I decided to take the reigns on this one and create a slide show that encased her passion with some of my/our opinions. I have seen how my sister has built her following and I admire the fact that she speaks to any and everyone. No matter what the social network is, even if what you say is a bit crazy she still answers (feel free to test her out). I put together this slide show which highlights some of what I feel are the must have behaviors to truly gain a following in social media. I hope you enjoy! Please feel free to give me feedback, lets create some great dialog. Catch me on twitter @thebrandtheorem.
