Boylan Bottling Co. I Need You To Step Up Your Game

December 30, 2012 by Laing 2 Comments

Mash

Dear Boylan Bottling Co.,

Whenever I go to Dame’s Chicken And Waffles (celebrated gourmet chicken restaurant in Durham, NC) I order a Classy Hen with Mac n’ Cheese, Collard Greens, and for my drink the best flavored water in the world a Pomegranate BlueBerry MASH.

My issue with this is, visiting Dame’s which I love to do…is the only place that I can find MASH. What happens if I want to buy a case or two or three for the house? I’m SOL! I googled MASH a couple months ago and the website said coming soon! Guess what….it still says coming soon. So I researched the bottling company. Great!  It’s great to know that the Boylan brand is behind one of my favorite drinks because even though I have limited my soda intake I love their sodas. I love the ones infused with natural fruit flavors like Black Cherry, Orange, and Grape.  You know them as soon as you see the bottle! I can grab them from Harris Teeter or Food Lion.

I went to the Boylan Bottling Co. website and you have not updated your product listing to show MASH! I’m sadly disappointed.  Boylan has its roots in New Jersey since 1891 and  you state;

Today the Boylan brand’s strongest following still resides near its birthplace around the New York Metro and MidAtlantic areas, but as Boylan follows the demand of its passionate fans, our sodas are now available in over twenty states and on three different continents. Today more people than ever have the chance to experience Boylan’s bold flavors and appreciate the way sodas can taste when they’re done right.

Okay Boyland Bottling Co. I am there with you all the way, I’m a true supporter and fan so I am going to need you to bring MASH to the retail market and work on updating both websites! Because you have great products, the natural ingredients justify the cost, and you have built a great brand over the years that only improves so ummm let’s get to it! Please and thanks.

Sincerely

MASH Lover Laing

Ubisoft Builds Bonds At The 2012 Type A Parent Conference (XBOX & Wii Game Pack Giveaway)

Who says you need alcohol to have a good time? (don’t pay attention to the champagne flute in my hand) Just get a ball room full of bloggers together and throw a video game on the projector screen! Just Dance 3 by Ubisoft was the social ice breaker after a day of intense speakers and sessions at the 2012 Type A Parent Conference. If I didn’t get to meet you and socialize during the day the Ubisoft party was the place to be. We were solicited to break up into teams prior to attending the conference so you know everyone joined forces! We had to plan 80′s themed throw back costumes. It was #AWESOME! A sea full of bright colors, layered tube socks with leggings, leg warmers, off the shoulder t’s, windbreaker suits, day glow shirts,  stunna shades, retro basket ball shorts, and tutus! *whew* It was so amazing to see everyone get together and have a blast! You would have thought that the finale/ unveiling of Just Dance 4 was pre-rehersed and choreographed it was so on point! I can’t wait for Ubisoft to release Just Dance 4 this October!

In paying homage to the great party that Ubisoft sponsored I am giving away two prize packs. One for Xbox and one for Nintendo Wii. Each prize pack is geared towards Family Fun Night!

How about having all the classic game shows right in your living room. The XBOX prize pack includes “The Price Is Right” (Decades Edition), “Family Feud” (2012 Edition), “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire” (2012 Edition), and “Hole In The Wall” (Deluxe Edition). The Wii prize pack includes “Family Feud” (2012 Edition), “The Price Is Right” (2012 Edition), and a bonus one of my favorite games “NCIS”. Please enter, spread the word, and enjoy!

TO BRAND or TO OFF BRAND

July 22, 2012 by Laing Leave a Comment

After a year and three months of being unemployed I am thankful to say that I am part of the work force again. My experience has taught me so much. It was a hard eye opening invitation to view the way I live my life and how I choose to spend money. I would find myself reflecting on how much money had passed through my hands while employed and the stupid things I purchased. Then I would look around at what I had to show for myself. What became an almost daily  pity party for my lack of fiscal responsibility turned into a life changing event.

I began doing inventory checks to see how I could increase my budget. I took stock of the items I had accumulated over the years and how often I used them. I weighed any sentimental value and ultimately sold most of them. I sold furniture and gave a lot of items to charity. Why? Because after being unemployed all material becomes just stuff. You can’t eat name brand shoes and designer bags when your belly rumbles. Designer items don’t increase in value and can’t be easily liquidated to pay for the roof over your head. Plus if you could sell everything they would most likely be sold for pennies on the dollar. I remember having a pocket book party and inviting every women I knew who had ever paid me a compliment on my designer bags.  That party was a success for me and very positive for the client who received a designer bag at a steal.Even after all of that I still had too much stuff!

I began clipping coupons. I swore up, down, and sideways that I would become an extreme coupon super woman (that didn’t come to fruition)….but I can accumulate a damn good discount on my bill. My mental math on price per unit is AWESOME!  Don’t get me wrong I still have some impulse purchases that have happened along the way but I am a far cry from the bourgeoisified chick that I used to be…I will still rock a mean pair of designer heels but instead of paying full price it may come from the seasonal sale at Nordstrom.

But there is one area that I have always struggled with; purchasing BRAND names versus OFF BRAND groceries. It has been embedded in us from youths that if a BRAND shot their logo in front of our face 20 times a day and it’s priced high it must be good. If a company has a huge advertising budget….it’s got to be great! I would rather find a BRAND named coupon than pick up an OFF BRAND item priced lower that I don’t recognize. Why am I this way with groceries? What did this company do to gain my loyalty?

Now to build a strong brand I say that you should remain relevant with a good reputation and public image, engage with your audience/ consumer, have a purpose, and fulfill on deliveries. But none of these big company’s have done that for me personally so why in my BROKE limited financial state do I support them?

The fact is that they are CONSISTENT! They consistently show my family and I what they have to offer and magically send subliminal triggers that tap into our subconscious and tell us that we need it! Not to say that there isn’t quality in the BRAND, but most items are exactly the same. It’s like generic prescriptions versus the BRAND; same medication, same dosage.  So as I am paying more attention to how I do my shopping I notice that Harris Teeter Supermarket has an off brand to Mountain Dew called Mountain Roar. I almost died laughing…but let’s not forget Food Lions, Dr. Perky.

After that in depth analysis of BRAND vs OFF BRAND I realize that the stupid names are a major deterrent to me purchasing OFF BRANDS.  What are your preferences? Do BRAND named groceries make a difference in your household?

Instagram Inspires

Who knew that the photo sharing application Instagram would be the catalyst for two awesome businesses. StickyGram and Casetagram. I love this concept and these products!

StickyGram developed by MintDigital takes your 50×50 Instagram photos and turns them into magnets.  Now anyone who knows me should know that I am a very visual person and have a collection of stickers on my sticker trunk…I am officially branching out to StickyGram magnets now! My fridge already has some quirky magnets but now I can truly personalize them. How awesome is that? At $14.99 for a pack of 9 with free shipping, that’s a no brainer for showcasing your best works of Insta-Art!

Casetagram is similar in that they offer iPhone and iPad cases made form your Instagram photos. Did I fail to mention my affection for cases as well…as an honorary Apple head I change phone cases like I change my purse.  Often! The bonus to Casetagram is they offer a gallery. So if you are not pleased enough to make your own Insta-Art permanent you can choose from staff picks or recent designs. The cost is $34.95 for the iPhone case and $54.95 for the iPad case. Second bonus Casrtagram also offers free shipping. These prices are very reasonable and comparable to the cases selling in the Apple store.
