BAND-AID Magic Vision With The Muppets

June 12, 2012 by Laing Leave a Comment

Okay so who says you have to be a kid to believe in magic? As an adult I still think that a BAND-AID can solve most of the worlds problems. This new application allows you to take an interactive role in the comfort portion of the healing process. The application BAND-AID MAGIC VISION featuring the Disney Muppets can be found in the App Store and functions on both iPhone and iPad. It’s a great way to make a boo boo hurt less and re-focus attention on how awesome the Muppets are. You can play with Kermit, Miss Piggy, or The Great Gonzo and take pictures of all your Muppet adventures! For you adults who may be too grown-up to wear a Muppets BAND-AID the application has one that you can print out and still secretly join in on the fun! So…..In the name of The Great Gonzo “Off to Zanzibar, to meet the Zanzibarbarians!”

My Shade of Brown: I Stole My Sisters Smooch

April 13, 2012 by Laing Leave a Comment

So my sister Jen of Jael Custom Designs received a Pillow Box in the month of February from My Shade Of Brown. My Shade of Brown is a company that simplifies the tedious task of finding that “just right” beauty product. They cater to women of color and through partnerships with several companies conveniently place 4-5 sample sized products in a cute box delivered to your door monthly. After you try the products if one of them speaks to you, you can go to their website and purchase the regular sized item. Who doesn’t like to try before you buy?

I do not recommend or condone what I am about to say but…. I stole it (for approximately 5 minutes I was a thief)! I looked at all the goodies in that Pillow Box and fell in love with Big Girl Cosmetics Lip Shine Smooch No.55. I couldn’t help it, it spoke to me. It kept saying “take me home, she doesn’t wear lip stain like you do, I would look so pretty on you, take me home, she won’t mind, you’re family”.

Well she noticed me lingering around her Pillow Box and realized that my lip gloss was poppin’ and hers was missing. So I came clean and begged and begged to keep it. PLEeeeeeASE let me have this color it just compliments me so well…..Yeah I can’t do any criminal act I would sing like a canary. Eventually she gave in but not without a hefty negotiation that only sisters can understand. So in exchanged for two unnamed items I got my Smooch. Then it dawned on me after all that foolishness I could just go to the website and get my own. Oh well we were over due for a sister challenge anyway.

The most exciting thing about this was researching Big Girl Cosmetics. Big Girl Cosmetics Creative Director Kiley Russell established her company through a most profound circumstance.  Everyone remembers the airing of Oprah when she gifted her entire audience a Pontiac G6. Well Russell was a member of that audience. A new vehicle was not essential for Russel so in what I consider to be great business sense she sold the Pontiac G6 and used the proceeds to accomplish her passion.

Now I have had the dream where Oprah just decides to randomly pay off all my bills and give me a little extra to build a home but Russell’s dream was a little more focused. *smiles*

Clear Internet Service Is Not Too Clear On Customer Service

April 12, 2012 by Laing Leave a Comment

I have had Clear internet service since November 2010. At that point in time they didn’t offer month to month plans. I leased my equipment with a 2 year contract. I have a Clear home modem and Clear Spot mobile device. I never really had trouble with the service, every once in a while I would get a slow connection and have to reset the device which always worked after unplugging it for a few minutes.

Then I moved from New York to North Carolina. You would think that with towers everywhere I would be fine, after all one of my devices is a mobile hot spot. To a degree that should have been a correct assumption. My downfall with Clear came when I called to change my address in their system. All of a sudden I have no internet. Ok bill is paid, plug is in properly, set and reset…..nothing.

My last resort with most companies is the dreaded customer service call. I have several associates who work in call centers that tell me horror stories of how some employees just don’t take their position seriously and use tactics to avoid dealing with clients. The famous disconnecting the call so it goes to another representative or placing you on hold for long periods of time to avoid hanging up and taking a new call. Also I do not support any company’s use of offshore call centers but I digress.

So in calling Clear I explained my situation to a representative who then took me through the trouble shooting steps (which I already did about 20 times) I unplugged, plugged, cleared cache, cleared history, blah blah blah…It’s still not working. The representative stated that since I just updated my address I should call back in 48 hours to let the change take effect. Really?

48 hours later I call back still complaining of no internet connection. I go through the same drama with a new representative who suggests that I try the modem on another device. Ummmm lady I only have one computer, then she tried to tell me it’s because I have a Mac. Did she just insult the Apple deities? It can’t be my computer because it’s happening on both Clear devices. Let’s just stop throwing stones in the dark okay! Now I’m boiling but she caught me in a situation, I was getting ready to leave the house for an event. Good for her bad for me. She suggested that I return my equipment for a new modem and clear spot device, so I should call back when I have more time to get this suggestion processed. I was happy with that solution.

I call back the next day and guess what not only did I have to go through the same BS again with trouble shooting protocol but I am not eligible to turn in my equipment. Why not? I’m in a lease, I pay extra for this protection every month. Oh no we have to do more trouble shooting before it can even be considered. I got so frustrated I asked for a supervisor…..and the phone disconnected……we knew that was gonna happen eventually right!

I took my frustration to twitter on my iPhone and in every tweet @clear was subjected to my rant. I had several of my followers deep in a dialogue about how poor clear customer service is. I even had some random tweeple direct message me to chime in on the conversation from profiles that I don’t follow. Well @clear has a great social media presence and immediately came to my aid to quell the situation. Through a series of tweets turned direct messages I was able to exchange my equipment. So after almost two weeks of not being plugged in, I was back in my virtual world.

I give accolades to the representative that ultimately assisted me on twitter. It was redemptive to say the least. So you think my story is done, nope! Clear took that act of redemption away when I received two e-mails later that week stating that my device does not satisfy the requirements for a warranty exchange by reason of: device outside of warranty period.

All I have to say is if I see any additional charges on my bill regarding the replacement equipment that was sent to me….all social media outlets be prepared for my campaign against Clear.

Bare Minerals Active Cell Renewal Night Serum Challenge

February 20, 2012 by Laing Leave a Comment

So I gave this post a month to develop. I decided if I am truly going to write about skin care I have to be disciplined enough to put the product to the test.  In addition to the challenge I recently switched my makeup line from MAC to Bare Escentuals. I think its a coming of age thing where I don’t feel the need to be bold ALL the time. Bare Escentuals gives me a covered but natural fresh look. Not too heavy, just right! Should I need my dramatic look for the red carpet I can always concede to my big ol’ makeup kit.

Okay so back to the challenge…I wash my face with bareMinerals Purifying Facial Cleanser after that I add the Active Cell Renewal Night Serum then follow with Purely Nourishing Moisturizer. I immediately saw a difference just by adding this product to my face. It felt extra soft and firm at the same time but not that tight feeling you get from harsh treatments, this was very gentle and practically odorless.

So this is what bare Escentuals has to say “Our intensive night serum helps restore your skin’s ability to reach its ideal renewal state. Powered by our proprietary ActiveSoil Complex–combined with a unique moisture boost technology–this formula maximizes cellular renewal and hydrates skin overnight. The result? Cells that are supercharged to protect you during the day and skin that looks firmer, healthier and younger” well I co-sign! My face looks and feels great!

So now let’s talk price bareMinerals Active Cell Renewal Night Serum is $50.00 ”Suffering Sappho!”…..I have to admit sometimes the price of beauty can be expensive.  I justified it by saying on average a gym membership costs approximately $50.00 a month so I consider this a gym membership for my face, and knowing me (using only a dime sized amount) I will make this bottle last way longer than a month. So ladies its worth it! The Bare Minerals website also has an offer of free shipping on auto renewal orders to lessen the blow.

“But even though she was attractive, there was something else about her that caught his eye. She was intelligent, he could sense that right away, and confident, too, as if she were able to move through life on her own terms. To him, these were the things that really mattered. Without them, beauty was nothing.”

My Mophie Never Lets Me Down

January 13, 2012 by Laing 1 Comment

I love my Mophie! In entering the world of social media and discovering the necessity to be on twitter 24/7 I realized that the battery life on my iPhone4 just wasn’t holding up. I tried everything from limiting open applications, turning off most notification settings, turning off wifi, not pushing e-mail accounts, dimming my screen *jumping up and down on one foot*. Anything you can think of I did it! Me and my plug were attached at the hip.

Then it dawned on me *dah* extended battery pack. So I did my research, who’s the best in the business for iPhone battery packs  @Mophie. I went to BestBuy due to the urgency of the matter and bought a regular black Mophie Juice Pack Plus but I truly should have held out and ordered one of the pretty colors. I have my eye on the Mophie Juice Pack Air (PRODUCT) RED. That could be my next monthly gift to myself while contributing to a good cause [SIDEBAR: every girl should buy herself something at least once a month big or small just to say yeah I'm special..]

I literally went from charging my iPhone4 daily to every two maybe pushing three days with twitter and facebook working overtime!  Oh and an honorable mention goes to multiple check-ins on foursquare. *clears throat* So in conclusion I find that my Mophie never lets me down! I have the ability to stay plugged into my virtual world for at least 24-48 hours without having to recharge. Yaaaay!

P.S. it comes in purple (not shown) the purple is hottt!
